Kevin Ward Jr. ESS Opener Ends in Disappointment After Early Race Incident; Next Race at Black Rock Speedway on Friday Night
It was a good night gone bad for Kevin Ward Jr. in the ESS season opener at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Saturday night. Ward had a fast car, but was caught up in an early race incident that took him out of contention.
Ward was fast right from opening hot laps, posting the second fastest speed of the 35 sprint cars that filled the Can Am pit area. He started his 10 lap qualifier from seventh place after drawing a high number entering the track, but he was able to advance to fifth, moving into a qualifying spot for the night’s 25 lap A-main. The race wasn’t even a lap old before Ward Jr. found himself caught up in an incident that that all but took him out of the race. Ward limped to an 18th place finish.
“That was not how we wanted to start the season with the Empire Super Sprints”, said Ward after the race. “We had a good car, but just didn’t get a chance to show how good it could have been”.
The next event on the schedule for Kevin is the Patriot Sprint Tour event at Black Rock Speedway this coming Friday, May 4th. The following weekend, the team will travel to Autodrome Granby on Friday, May 11th and Saturday May 12th for the Can Am Sprint Car Challenge Series. The next Empire Super Sprint event is Saturday, May 19th at the legendary Fonda Speedway.
Kevin Ward Jr. would like to thank their sponsors for their support during the 2012 racing season. They include Westward Painting, Tioga Construction, Sherwin Williams, Lyons Falls Tire Inc., Young’s Auto Parts/Carquest, Cash for Cans, and Finish Line Web Design.
